Wanted felon nabbed after footchase
STANISLAUS COUNTY – A suspect with a laundry list of charges was arrested just outside Modesto on August 16th.
20-year-old Alex Merrill had outstanding warrants for assault with a deadly weapon, a criminal street gang enhancement, vandalism, and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
At 9:20 PM, the Stanislaus County Sheriffs received information from the Oakdale Police Department that Merrill was driving toward the Modesto area. Eight minutes later, a deputy spotted the stolen white Toyota sedan that Merrill was driving at the intersection of Hatch Road and Crows Landing Road.
The deputy attempted to stop Merrill’s vehicle, but Merrill failed to yield. Officers pursued him southbound until he wrecked his vehicle at the intersection of Crows Landing and Greyson Road.
As Merrill fled on foot, the lone deputy pursuing him was joined by several more officers and a helicopter for air support. Merrill was eventually found three hours later by a deputy and her K-9 partner, Sam.
Merrill was arrested for his outstanding warrant from the Oakdale Police Department. Sgt. Anthony Bejaran of the Stanislaus County Sheriffs confirmed that Merrill’s warrants had originated from Oakdale, where Merrill had committed those crimes.
