Four suspects accused of stealing nearly $60,000 worth of purses from Neiman Marcus
Two 20-year-old suspects and two juvenile suspects were arrested for alleged robbery after about tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise was stolen from a Neiman Marcus store at the Fashion Island Shopping Center in Newport Beach.
Police were alerted to the robbery at about 4:15 PM on July 20th, Of the six total reported suspects, police have thus far located and arrested the following four individuals: Dominic Deshaun Burrell of Lancaster, Brionnah Chanell Riley of Palmdale, and two minors.
The six individuals allegedly stole at least $58,000 worth of Chanel handbags before fleeing the scene in two separate vehicles. Two suspects took off in a red sedan and four in a white BMW.
It did not take long for police to locate and begin pursuing the BMW. The driver, Burrell, refused to pull over and surrender to police and instead led them on a chase along the 405 Freeway.
“During the course of the pursuit, the suspects discarded several of the stolen items along the pursuit route,” according to police. A police helicopter and highway patrol officers responded to assist in the pursuit.
The BMW took the Bolsa Avenue exit and stopped in the city of Westminster, where the four suspects got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. All four were subsequently caught. Each was charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery. Burrell and Riley were both additionally charged with child endangerment, and Burrell was also charged with recklessly evading police.
“Officers recovered approximately $58,000 in stolen merchandise from the suspect vehicle and from the discarded property along the pursuit route,” said Newport Beach police. “Evidence located within the vehicle is believed to link the group to similar crimes which have been committed in the greater Los Angeles area.”
The two remaining suspects in the red sedan have not yet been identified and are still at large.
