“The crime spree started early Monday morning on July 25th, around 5 am, when the suspect, who was later identified as 39-year-old John Vang of Sacramento, entered the McDonalds (Sheldon and E. Stockton) and started taking money from a cash drawer. When an employee confronted Vang, he pulled a firearm and pointed it at the employee. Vang then left on a motorcycle.
On Wednesday morning (July 27th), around 6 am, Vang broke into rental car business and took cash and other property from the business.
A short time later, Vang knocked on the door of Chipotle (Elk Grove Boulevard/ Franklin), which was closed but were employees working inside. An employee came to the door, and Vang asked for water. As the employee unlocked the door, Vang entered the business and pulled a firearm. Vang demanded money, and as Vang was leaving, he fired one shot into the ceiling of the business.
Around 5 am on Saturday (July 30th), Vang pulled into the McDonalds drive-thru (Elk Grove Boulevard / I-5) in a car, pointed a gun at the drive-thru employee, and demanded the cash register drawer. Vang fled in the vehicle with the cash drawer. It was later determined that the car Vang was in was stolen from a nearby fast-food restaurant earlier in the morning. The license plate was entered into the system so surrounding agencies would be aware.
Later that night, Galt Police Department found the stolen car Vang had used earlier in the morning. Vang got into another vehicle and led Galt PD on a pursuit north on SR-99 towards Elk Grove. He eventually surrendered on 99 just north of Elk Grove Boulevard and was taken into custody (see GPD’s Facebook page to learn how they found the vehicle and more).
Vang was turned over to our custody and booked at the Main Jail on multiple charges, including robbery, burglary, possession of stolen property, vehicle theft, and felony evading. Thanks to the Galt Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for their help!”
