Armed Robbers Hold up 2 Hotels Along Hwy 99, 2 More Near Huron
FRESNO COUNTY – Hotels in Selma and Kingsburg were the targets of armed robbers late Sunday night. Another two hotels were robbed in the same fashion on Monday night near Huron, but officials do not yet know whether they are related.
The first incident happened at the Selma Holiday Inn on 2950 Pea Soup Anderson Blvd just before 10 p.m. Three masked suspects confronted the clerk at the desk, a young woman attending Fresno State, and told her to open the drawer and give them the money.
The clerk did what she was asked, and then laid on the ground while the suspects continued to search the office. They were gone in a matter of minutes.
Around 12 minutes later, several miles down the road in Kingsburg, the clerk working at the Fairfield Inn was also confronted by three masked suspects. One of the suspects jumped over the counter and took the cash drawer, according to authorities.
No one was hurt in either incident.
The descriptions in both the incidents were similar, with the suspects wearing sweatshirts with hoodies in order to help conceal their identities. Authorities believe one of the suspects may have been a woman. At least one suspect had a semi-automatic handgun, according to police.
The suspects were seeing fleeing the scene in Kingsburg in a silver Dodge Avenger or Stratus. Police say they would be surprised if the two incidents are not related.
Meanwhile, on Monday night, two hotels near Hwy 198 just north of Huron and Interstate 5 on West Panoche Road were robbed. Three suspects in ski masks, one of them armed, entered the hotels and demanded the money. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office did not know whether they were related to the incidents in Selma and Kingsburg.
