Nevada County Man Gets 16 Months in Jail for March 2022 Firearm Incident

A Nevada County man has been sentenced to 16 months in jail after being convicted of possession of a short-barrel shotgun, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The office said in a press release that Nicholas Mamula was sentenced on Monday, November 7, in connection to an incident which occurred earlier this year, on March 11.
In that incident, deputies had responded to a residence near Clear Creek Place for a possible armed hostage situation. Crisis negotiators were ultimately able to diffuse the situation and the armed suspect, identified as Mamula, was taken into custody and placed under an emergency gun violence restraining order.
This was the second incident involving Mamula in as many days.
The DA’s Office reportedly recommended a sentence of 2 years, the maximum allowed under California SB 567, which went into effect on January 1, 2022. The court ultimately determined Mamula should get 16 months.
Mamula will serve his sentence at the county jail, the DA’s Office said.
