Citrus Heights Police announce Drug Take-back day
On Saturday, September 29, from 10 am to 2 pm, the Citrus Heights Police Department will conduct a prescription drug take-back, to allow the public to safely dispose of dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. This free and anonymous event will take place in the front lobby of the police station, located at 6315 Fountain Square Drive, just a block North of Greenback.
The reason for this event, held in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), is that young people sometimes abuse prescription drugs to get “high”, often for the first time. These drugs are commonly obtained from family and friends’ medicine cabinets. Also, the common ways people dispose of their prescription drugs, in the toilet or trash, pose safety concerns and public health hazards.
The Annual National Presription Drug Take-Back day is being held for the fourth year in a row, and has taken in over one million pounds of drugs nationally at almost 10,000 locations.
California will have events all over the state the same day. To locate a location near you just check the DEA website.
