NOVATO —A 74-year-old man found with methamphetamine in his possession was placed under arrest for a hit and run accident. The suspect identified as Robert A. Lombardi, a Novato resident, was taken into custody at the Villas at Hamilton apartment building on December 12th .
Lombard’s arrest follows one day after a 19-year-old woman was found injured lying on a sidewalk. Officers responding to a report of an injured woman found her near a parking lot entrance to the Hamilton SMART train station. The victim was apparently walking along Main Gate Road when she was struck by a gray Lexus sedan on December 11th . The driver fled from the scene at approximately 3 p.m. Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported her to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the train station, which led them to identification the suspect. Officer’s were also able to identify the suspects vehicle as the vehicle involved in the incident, due to the distinctive damage on the passenger side, including a damaged side-view mirror.
On December 12th shortly after 10 a.m., a patrol officer observed Lombardi’s car in the Hamilton district. Lombardi was arrested at 12:10 p.m. in an apartment at 420 South Palm Drive. Officers found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Lombardi’s possession.
Lombardi was transported to Marin County Jail. He was booked on open charges for felony hit and run causing death or injury. He also faces misdemeanor charges for possession of a controlled substance, and possession of unlawful paraphernalia. He remains in custody behind bars in lieu of $50,000 bond.
