MURRIETA — The Murrieta Police Department reportedly received multiple calls regarding gunshots on Christmas morning.
Officers arrived to the location, of Calle San Clemente and Calle San Vicente, and learned that the sound of the shots came from the 24000 block of Calle San Vicente. Nobody had been injured, police said.
As officers set up a perimeter and made contact with a female individual who informed them that there was a man in the residence that was experiencing a mental health crisis. She further confirmed to officers that the man was her partner and that he had two guns in the home with him.
Based on the details of the situation, SWAT was called and responded to the scene. After hours of persuasion and convincing, the suspect came out of the residence and surrendered peacefully. A subsequent search of his residence revealed two guns and 30 bullet casings.
David Carr, 48, was arrested and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a semiautomatic weapon and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. His bail was set at $1 million.
