Two Inmates Walk Out of Medium Detention Center
WATSONVILLE—On September 11, a day when most Americans paid tribute to the fallen heroes of 11 years ago, two medium detention inmates decided that it would be a good time to escape from the Roundtree Detention Center in Watsonville.

Blaine Collamore, 22, of Scotts Valley and Bryan Martin, 29, of Ben Lomand were both housed at the facility awaiting sentencing for numerous drug and theft charges. Both inmates were attending a “recidivism reduction class” and were on a classroom break when they decided to walk away.

“Both Collamore and Martin are considered to be low-risk inmates and agreed to participate in the program,” Santa Cruz Sheriff Sergeant Steve Carney said. “The ironic thing is, that the pair had been enrolled in the program for approximately six weeks and were near completion of the first phase when they decided to escape.”
Shortly after their escape, deputies responded to a residence on the 1600 block of San Andreas Road. Once there they contacted the occupant, Kim Mason, who told Action 8’s Phil Gomez during an interview that “she was upstairs asleep and was awakened from a deep sleep with the dogs barking and the Sheriff’s Department knocking on her front door.”

The two suspects had taken her purse and wallet. They also stole her 1995 Blue Honda wagon with California License plate number 2BWE696. The vehicle is described as oxidized blue with a rear bumper sticker that reads “Live Aloha”
While the deputies where searching for the two escapees, they received a call from a citizen about a suspicious car that was parked on the side of San Andreas Road. Deputies responded and found Daniel Ballard, 32, and Stephanie McCullough, 25, sitting in the vehicle. Upon further investigation they learned that the two were waiting to pick up the escapees. They were arrested and charged with accessory to the crime.
Authorities believe that Callamore and Martin knew that the two had been arrested and that is when they decided to break in the Mason home. “Even though they are considered low-risk we still want the public to be aware and to call us right away if they are seen,” Sergeant Carney added.

The Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Department is still actively searching for the escapees and they are asking anybody who knows of their whereabouts to call 911 or the Sheriff’s Department at 831-471-1121 or 831-454-2311.
