“On Friday, January 6, 2023 at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department Communications Center began receiving numerous 9-1-1 calls reporting a man with a gun in the area of Stony Point Rd. and Highway 12. The subject was reported to be moving around the area pointing the firearm at homeless encampments on the Joe Rodota Trail and vehicles driving by. Several of the callers reported the man was seen pointing a handgun at vehicles on Highway 12 from the Stony Point Road overpass. Officers rushed to the area and began searching for the man using the information provided by the callers. Within a few minutes, an officer located the subject standing in the grass on the eastbound Highway 12 onramp at Stony Point Road. As the officer approached the subject from behind, he could clearly see the man was pointing a firearm at passing vehicles. The officer immediately gave the man orders to drop the firearm and directed other officers to his location. The man complied with the officers instructions and was taken into custody without incident. It was determined the man was in possession of a replica firearm. The replica gun had no markings that would have identified it as an imitation firearm. Additionally, the man was in possession of suspected methamphetamine and corresponding smoking pipe.
Humberto Moya-Gonzalez, a 28-year-old transient, was arrested and booked into county jail for the following charges:
20170(a) PC – Openly displaying an imitation firearm in public
11377(a) HS – Possession of a controlled substance
11365(a) HS – Possession of narcotics paraphernalia
The Santa Rosa Police Department would like to thank our alert and concerned community members for taking the time to call 9-1-1 and providing crucial information. It was because of your information we were able to locate the suspect so quickly and take him safely into custody.”
