Suspects Arrested in San Francisco Mission District Homicide

San Francisco police have announced the arrests of two suspects in connection to a homicide in the city’s Mission district last August.

The investigation began after police responded in the early morning hours of August 21, 2022, to Mission and 19th Streets for a report of a shooting. At the scene, officers discovered three victims with apparent gunshot wounds, and a fourth victim with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The three gunshot victims were transported to an area hospital, where one ultimately succumbed to their injuries. The fourth victim was treated and released at the scene.

San Francisco PD Homicide Detail began an investigation and later identified Christopher Berrios-Mabutas, 28, and Nickolas Ernesto Calderon, 22, as persons of interest. Arrest warrants were soon issued for both.

On the morning of January 12 of this year, police served both arrest and search warrants on the 400 block of B Street and Colma, where they arrested both suspects.

Barrios-Mabutas was arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, and aiding and abetting.

Calderon was arrested on suspicion of homicide, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, aiding and abetting, possession of a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a firearm, and a gun ehancement.

Detectives also served a search warrant at a second associated location, on the 600 block of Villa Street in Daly City. The investigation remains active and ongoing, police said.
