Oregon Man Arrested on Suspicion of Assault, Felony Vandalism in Shasta County
An Oregon man was recently arrested for allegedly assaulting two people and causing thousands of dollars in property damage in Shasta County.
Deputies responded on the afternoon of Friday, February 3, to the 5000 block of Olive Street in Anderson, where it had been reported that a suspicious man had been banging on the front door of a residence. The Sheriff’s Office soon began receiving additional calls from residents who reported seeing the same man in their yards and behaving erratically.
The man, identified as 30-year-old Zachary Welch of Drain, Oregon, was also accused of assaulting someone in their backyard, then stealing property and hopping fences into neighboring yards. Responding deputies soon located Welch along Scout Avenue, near the Sherry Lane intersection, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Around this time, deputies learned that Welch had allegedly assaulted a second victim on Paul Lane, as well as causing thousands of dollars of damage to a residence by allegedly using a metal T-post to break through the front door, damaging light fixtures, tearing down fencing, and damaging surveillance cameras, after entering the residence by breaking through a sliding-glass dog door.
Welch was reportedly non-compliant and resisted arrest, as well as refusing to give his name. He also allegedly made threats to kill deputies and challenged them to a fight several times while en route to the county jail. It was during booking that deputies identified him by name, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Welch was ultimately booked on suspicion of obstructing or resisting an officer, assault/battery, burglary, felony vandalism, and public intoxication.
