Fresno police have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to a fatal shooting in July of last year.
In a department media release issued Monday, February 13, police identified 35-year-old Hector Arreola as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Dominique Bustamante, 41, in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 23, 2022.
Shortly before 4 AM that day, Central Policing District officers responded to the area North Maroa and East Clinton Avenues after the department’s ShotSpotter system reported gunfire in the area. At the scene, officers found Bustamante unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Over the next several months, homicide detectives gathered information and were able to identify Arreola as a person of interest in the shooting. Soon thereafter, a warrant was issued for Arreola’s arrest.
On Thursday, February 9, U.S. Marshals and officers from the Reno Police Department located Arreola staying at a Motel 6 in Reno, Nevada. Arreola reportedly barricaded himself in the room, necessitating a SWAT presence at the scene, but ultimately surrendered after an approximately four-hour standoff.
Arreola is set to be extradited to Fresno to face murder charges, police said.
