Loma Linda, CA – On March 8, 2023, deputies assigned to Central Station observed a red Honda sedan in Loma Linda that had been reported stolen. The deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, identified as Louie Marquez, fled northbound on Mountain View Avenue towards the 10 freeway. Marquez then entered the westbound 10 freeway and reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit, Marquez sideswiped a vehicle on the transition from the westbound 10 freeway to the northbound 215 freeway.
Despite the collision, the deputies continued to pursue Marquez, who eventually exited the 215 freeway and continued to flee on the city streets of San Bernardino. However, Marquez lost control of the Honda and was involved in a traffic collision near South I Street and West Bellview Street. Marquez fled from the Honda but was eventually apprehended.
During the pursuit, a marked Sheriff’s patrol vehicle was also involved in a traffic collision at the conclusion point of the pursuit. The deputy was able to exit the vehicle before it caught fire. San Bernardino City Fire extinguished the flames, and the deputy was transported to a local hospital. Fortunately, he was released a short time later and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Marquez was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center for felony evading with disregard for safety. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the pursuit or has additional information to come forward and contact the department.
