Kern County: Two Burglary Suspects Arrested, One after Being Rescued from Marina

Wofford Heights, California – Two individuals were recently arrested in Kern County in connection to an alleged burglary as well as narcotics charges, according to a press release by the county Sheriff’s Office.
On March 12 at approximately 3:51 a.m., deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Kern Valley Substation, responded to a burglar alarm at the French Gulch Marina General Store. Upon arrival, they found two suspects, one hiding under a boat and the other in a nearby vehicle.
The first suspect was identified as 28-year-old Kody Brooks from Lake Isabella. Brooks was found hiding under a boat in the marina, and deputies rescued him from the water. Medical aid was provided to Brooks for potential hypothermia. The second suspect was identified as 27-year-old Justice Rycroft from Kernville.
Rycroft was found hiding in a nearby vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Both suspects were also in possession of approximately 60 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Following the discovery of the drugs, Brooks and Rycroft were arrested on multiple charges, including burglary and drug-related offenses.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office thanked the public for their help in identifying the suspects and for providing information that helped lead to their arrest. The Sheriff’s Office also reminded the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Brooks and Rycroft were taken to the Central Receiving Facility, where they will await trial. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and they will provide further updates as they become available.
