Madera County Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder
Madera CHP has announced the arrest of a primary suspect in a recent attempted murder investigation.
According to a CHP press release, an incident took place on SR-99 southbound, south of Avenue 24, in Madera County on March 10. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Madera Area received a call from the Merced Communications Center, reporting that a woman was being followed by her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Keith Coleman, who was attempting to force her vehicle off the roadway with his vehicle.
The situation escalated when Coleman allegedly shot at the woman and her male passenger, the CHP said.
The woman eventually lost control of the vehicle and became disabled at an embankment. From there, the victims fled into an orchard, where they were found by a CHP officer. Central Division’s Investigative Services Unit was called in to assist with the investigation. During the investigation, detectives identified Coleman as the suspect, along with the vehicle and weapon used in the incident.
A Ramey warrant for $1,000,000 was then authorized by Madera County for Coleman’s arrest, the CHP said.
With the assistance of the US Marshall’s office, Coleman was located and detained on March 20. CHP ISU detectives responded to the scene and took custody of Coleman. A search warrant was obtained for the residence Coleman was leaving at the time of his arrest, where detectives found a loaded teal and black 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.
Coleman was booked into Fresno County jail on suspicion of attempted murder under the $1,000,000 Ramey warrant. It was unclear at press time whether Coleman had retained a lawyer.
The victims of the incident are reported to have suffered minor injuries and are receiving medical attention.
