West Sacramento Man Arrested after Stand-Off with Police
A standoff in West Sacramento came to a peaceful end after several hours of negotiations with a suspect who was armed with a firearm last week.
According to a press release by the West Sacramento Police Department, initial reports stated that the suspect had pointed the firearm at a victim and was known to officers, having been on parole for robbery. Officers arrived at the scene and quickly established a perimeter. The incident took place at around 10:30 PM on the 1000 block of Fremont Boulevard in West Sacramento.
The victims were able to escape the residence and make their way towards the direction of the officers. However, the suspect remained inside the residence and was armed with a firearm. After numerous announcements were made over a loudspeaker, the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Team was deployed in an attempt to locate the suspect, but with no success.
The Yolo County Crisis Negotiations Team and the Yolo County Regional SWAT team were called in to support West Sacramento Police patrol officers. Crisis negotiators attempted to contact the suspect for several hours but to no avail. Eventually, the SWAT team used distraction devices, which resulted in the suspect peacefully surrendering to SWAT officers.
During the search of the residence, the firearm suspected to have been used in the crime was recovered. The male suspect was arrested for multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, child endangerment, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was transported to the Yolo County jail for processing, and the family returned to their residence unharmed.
The suspect’s name has not been released.
