Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the County of Placer have announced the groundbreaking of two new facilities at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville, California. The new facilities include a mental health treatment center and a medium security/vocational training facility that will provide acute mental health treatment and vocational training for inmates.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office recognizes the importance of mental health treatment for its inmate population and is committed to reducing recidivism in Placer County by providing inmates with job training for employment opportunities upon their release from custody. The new mental health facility will provide acute mental health treatment and expand treatment for inmates who have been deemed incompetent to stand trial, with the goal of restoring the inmate’s competency so they can stand trial.
The medium security/vocational training facility will provide additional space for an extra 120 beds and include vocational shops for welding, vinyl printing, embroidery, and construction. It will also include a lobby, in-person and video visitation, day rooms, recreation yards, and multipurpose classrooms.
Both projects were approved by the Placer County Board of Supervisors in 2015 and Clark & Sullivan Construction and Broward Builders, Inc. were selected to design and build the facilities in 2022. The mental health facility will span 16,272 square feet and include 45 inmate beds, while the medium security/vocational training facility will span approximately 38,837 square feet.
The projects, expected to be completed by the summer of 2024, are estimated to cost just over $56 million, with partial funding provided by Senate Bill 863 and Senate Bill 844. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the County of Placer are committed to providing the best possible care and rehabilitation services to the inmate population and ensuring the safety of the community. The new facilities are expected to provide much-needed support and resources to help inmates reintegrate into society and reduce the rate of recidivism.
