On Sunday, March 26, 2023, a shooting occurred on the grounds of Gurdwara Sahib, a Sikh temple located at 7676 Bradshaw Road in Sacramento, during a religious festival celebrating Nagar Kirtan. The festival began at 9:00 A.M., and thousands of worshippers and spectators attended and participated in a parade.
At around 2:30 P.M., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the temple. Upon their arrival, they discovered two male subjects suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment and were expected to survive. Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies, including the Sacramento Police Department, Elk Grove Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol, responded to assist.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detectives and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on the scene to interview witnesses and gather evidence. Their investigation revealed that three East Indian males were involved in a physical altercation, during which one of the individuals produced a firearm and shot one of the others. The third individual, identified as 21-year-old Karman SANDHU, also produced a firearm and shot the first individual before fleeing the scene on foot.
SANDHU was later located and taken into custody by Sheriff’s detectives.
