Man Arrested on Suspicion of Domestic Abuse after Police Standoff in Turlock
A Stanislaus County man has been arrested in connection to an incident of domestic violence on the 1300 block of Shady Lane earlier this week. A woman had contacted authorities on the night of Monday, May 1, to report concerning behavior by her estranged boyfriend.
According to a press release by the Turlock Police Department, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Golden Duwane Dupree, had been temporarily staying at the victim’s residence after a period of estrangement. The victim stated that Dupree had subjected her and their juvenile son to both physical and verbal abuse.
In an attempt to deescalate the situation, the victim and her child left the apartment to obtain food from a nearby restaurant. Unfortunately, Dupree continued his alleged threatening behavior, targeting the victim with additional verbal abuse while they were outside the apartment. Officers arrived at the scene to address the situation, but were unable to convince Dupree to cooperate.
On May 2, the Turlock Police responded to reports of property damage allegedly caused by Dupree within the Shady Lane apartment complex. Given the previous night’s incident and additional details gathered, officers surrounded the apartment and engaged in negotiations with Dupree. Ultimately, Dupree peacefully surrendered after a period of communication, police said.
Dupree has been taken into custody and now faces multiple charges, including stalking, making criminal threats, felony domestic violence, brandishing a firearm, felony child cruelty, and battery causing serious bodily injury. The charges stem from a prior domestic violence incident that occurred in March.
Lieutenant Russell Holeman expressed the dedication of the Turlock Police Department to ensuring the safety of residents, holding individuals accountable, and seeking justice for all victims involved. The police department acknowledges the patience and cooperation of affected or displaced residents throughout the course of this incident.
