The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identity of the individual who was killed in the officer-involved shooting in the City of Placerville on April 26, 2023. The deceased person has been identified as 32-year-old Thomas Michael Signor of Placerville. The Sheriff’s Office has notified Signor’s next of kin.
On the day of the incident, law enforcement officials were executing a search warrant at a residence on Baco Drive and Blairs Lane when Signor came to the door with what appeared to be a firearm. Deputies were involved in an Officer Involved Shooting (OIS), and Signor was killed.
The EDSO SWAT team has cleared the residence and confirmed that no one else is inside. Other weapons were found in accessible locations throughout the residence, and the firearm that Signor was holding when he confronted the deputies at the front door was collected by the team during their investigation. The scene processing will continue through the evening, and further updates will be provided if more information becomes available.
An in-depth investigation is currently underway, following the Critical Incident Protocol Policy, by the EDSO and other outside agencies, including the District Attorney’s Office, Placerville Police Department, and South Lake Tahoe Police Department. The goal of the Critical Incident Protocol is to help ensure that such cases are thoroughly and fairly investigated.
The investigation into this OIS is expected to be lengthy, and it is likely that law enforcement presence will be seen in the area all night. The Traffic Control Point has been moved from Broadway and Blairs Lane to Baco Drive, and residents who live on Baco Drive will be able to return home. The road will remain closed for non-residents. The media staging area will be on Broadway, across from Blairs Lane.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that all EDSO personnel are accounted for and uninjured. At this time, there are no other wanted subjects outside of the perimeter. Officials have asked people to stay out of the area and will update the public when more information becomes available.
