Tragic Single-Vehicle Collision Claims Life, Driver Arrested for DUI and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter

Oceanside, CA – In the early hours of Sunday, June 4, 2023, emergency responders from the Oceanside Police Department rushed to the scene of a devastating single-vehicle collision located west of State Route 76 and Airport Road. The incident occurred at approximately 1:54 am when a 2003 Nissan Maxima, traveling eastbound on SR-76, veered out of control, resulting in a catastrophic collision with a large tree situated on the south shoulder of the roadway. Tragically, the collision proved fatal for the rear passenger of the vehicle, a Hispanic male believed to be around thirty years old. Despite the prompt arrival of officers and paramedics, the passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The identities of the involved parties have been withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement authorities suspect that both alcohol consumption and excessive speed played significant roles in causing the collision. Consequently, the driver of the Nissan Maxima, identified as twenty-nine-year-old Guillermo Sanchez Pacheco from Oceanside, was taken into custody on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter. Pacheco now faces serious legal consequences as a result of his alleged involvement in the incident.
