Calaveras County Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant During Probation Check

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a man on an outstanding felony warrant, who was also allegedly found to have been in violation of his probation.

According to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office, During a routine probation compliance check conducted by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, deputies apprehended a man on probation, identified as Gabriel Gurion, 25, of West Point on an outstanding felony warrant after discovering him hiding inside a residence. He was reportedly discovered to also be in possession of a firearm, which violates the conditions of his probation.

Deputies entered the residence and found Gurion hiding in a bedroom. A search of the premises led to the discovery and confiscation of two shotguns, both of which were deemed to be in violation of Gurion’s probationary terms. The arrest was carried out without any further incidents, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department conduct routine compliance checks as part of their commitment to upholding public safety. These checks are essential in monitoring and ensuring that individuals on probation adhere to the conditions set upon their release from custody, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Gurion, a resident of West Point, was later booked into the Calaveras County jail on suspicion of violating his probation terms, delaying the investigation, and possessing firearms as a prohibited person. The investigation into this case remains ongoing at this time.

It was unclear at press time whether Gurion had retained an attorney.
