Watsonville Parolee Runs from Police, Breaks into Apartment.
WATSONVILLE—Authorities with the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force (GTF) arrested Javier Zepeda Solis, 30, of Watsonville for violating his Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).
On Thursday, a sergeant with the GTF spotted Javier Solis and two others outside of the Day’s Inn hotel on Beach Street in Watsonville. Other Gang Task Force Agents along with members of the Watsonville Police Department attempted to stop Solis.
Solis had other ideas and sped off, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit through the streets of Watsonville.
“Solis has a history of running from us,” Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force Commander Mario Sulay said. “During the pursuit he reached speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour.”
The chase ended as Solis pulled into the trailer park in the 1900 block of Freedom Boulevard and crashed his vehicle, a black BMW, into a fence and fled on foot. He also had two passengers that fled on foot. Officers quickly caught up with the female passenger in a nearby trailer. The other male passenger eluded police.
Solis made it to an apartment complex at the end of Stewart Avenue. He had managed to get into an apartment whose occupants were unknown to him. Police forced entry into the apartment and found a sleeping teenager girl unaware that anyone had entered her home.
Officers found clothing that Solis had jettisoned as he tried to hide in the apartment. They also found a 9mm pistol, bullets and a ammunition magazine that appeared to be hastily hidden. Police eventually found Solis hiding in a locked bedroom and arrested him without further incident.
The gun was reported stolen from the City of Salinas last month. Solis was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on felony evading, a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, burglary and violation of probation. His bail has been set at $160,000.00 dollars.
