Arrest Made in Downtown Jewelry Store Robbery: PSPD Seeks Public’s Help to Identify Second Suspect

PSPD DETECTIVES ARREST 1 SUSPECT IN DOWNTOWN JEWELRY STORE ROBBERY; ASKING FOR PUBLIC’S HELP TO IDENTIFY THE SECOND SUSPECT
Through their investigation, PSPD detectives were able to identify a suspect in the August 15th jewelry store robbery, in downtown Palm Springs. Detectives conducted a surveillance operation in Victorville, arrested the suspect, and executed a search warrant at his residence, where they recovered evidence related to the crime. The suspect was identified as 33 year-old Anthony Wayne Mathis of Victorville. He’s charged with 211 PC. (Robbery) and 182(a)(1) PC. (Conspiracy to commit a felony).
Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the second suspect in the crime. He is described as a black male adult, approximately 6’0” tall, 180-220 pounds, last seen wearing a camouflage-style head covering, white and neon yellow jacket, tan pants, and yellow shoes.

DOWNTOWN JEWELRY STORE ROBBERY ATTEMPT AND SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION
Just after 3:00 PM, Tuesday afternoon, PSPD responded to reports of a possible robbery in progress, at a jewelry store, on the190 block of S Palm Canyon.
Witnesses say two male suspects entered the store with hammers. Shots were fired inside by an employee and the circumstances surrounding what led to the shooting are still under investigation.
The suspects ran away on foot and it’s unknown at this time whether or not they got away with any valuables. Officers searched the surrounding area for the suspects, but they were not located.
There are no reports of any injuries.
