Prior to his arrival, Officers from the Corning Police Department arrived on scene and confirmed the man was threating to jump from the over crossing onto Interstate 5.
Once on scene, Officer Nelson immediately recognized the urgency of the situation and quickly began building rapport with the man who was standing with one leg over the railing. While speaking to him, the man stated he was going to jump headfirst in order to end his life. While Corning Police created a distraction, Officer Nelson seized that opportunity to pull the man off the railing and safely bring him to the ground, without injury.
With the assistance of Corning PD, Officer Nelson’s heroic actions preserved this man’s life and enabled him to receive the help he needed, today.
