Two Arrested in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run in Clovis

A fatal hit-and-run collision occurred last week near the intersection of Shaw and Willow in Clovis, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

According to a press release by the Clovis Police Department, an officer discovered a man lying in the roadway next to a motorized scooter on Willow, just north of Shaw, just after 12:30 AM on October 18. Despite receiving immediate medical attention and transportation to the hospital, the victim, identified as 23-year-old Joshua Hatfield of Fresno, ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation reportedly indicated that the driver of an SUV was traveling northbound on Willow and had the right of way, with a green traffic signal at the Shaw intersection, and Hatfield was operating the motorized scooter on the westbound side of Shaw, moving against a red signal light at Willow, when the collision occurred.

Upon stopping the SUV in question just north of Shaw, officers reportedly witnessed the driver switching seats with a second occupant in the vehicle. The second individual then allegedly tried to drive away from the scene. Officers pulled the vehicle over a short distance away and arrested the driver without incident.

The initial driver of the SUV, identified as 35-year-old Tracy Slocum of Fresno, was taken into custody on charges of felony hit-and-run. Another individual, 35-year-old Latray Magano, was arrested for allegedly obstructing the investigation.

The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.
