BERKELEY — A man previously arrested for nuisance spray-paint vandalism now stands accused of attempted second-degree robbery. His most recent run-in with the law occurred in downtown Berkeley near the University of California campus.
The suspect’s troubles with the law appear to be escalating. Henry Barrett Fox, 20 of Albany, was arrested in January for vandalism in Oakland. Fox was arrested this month for allegedly using force/fear during an attempted robbery. It seems he brandished what was later determined to be a mock weapon.
Fox allegedly attempted to rob a middle-aged man on November 1. The suspect tried unsuccessfully to rob the victim’s backpack and scooter. It happened around lunchtime near
Center and Oxford streets, but fortunately the victim escaped unharmed from the suspect. Berkeley police found Fox not far from the crime scene. Berkeley officers arrested him at 1:10 p.m. Incidentally, Fox had knives in his possession when he was taken into custody. Fox was transported and booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail at 2:58 p.m. Bond for release from custody was set at $100,000.
This attempted robbery is but one example of a significant increase in crime occurring this year in Berkeley. Downtown and the campus area, along with the southwest area typically experience the most crimes. Burglaries, carjackings, robberies, and shootings frequently occur throughout this rough and tumble city.
