A man already on probation was recently arrested after allegedly being caught with a stolen gun in Calaveras County.
According to a press release by the county Sheriff’s Office, the incident began with a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation around 1:30 AM on November 24. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 35-year-old Kenny Guillemin of Angels Camp, was found to be on probation and thus subject to search terms.
Deputies searched the vehicle and reportedly found Guillemin to be in possession of a stolen .40 caliber Berretta handgun. Guillemin was taken into custody without incident and later booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
The Sheriff’s Office did not provide details regarding the circumstances surrounding the stolen gun, except that it was reported stolen out of Calaveras County.
It was unclear at press time whether Guillemin had retained an attorney.
Any person arrested on suspicion of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
