Colusa, Yolo County Authorities Arrest Suspect in Connection with Recent Fuel Thefts
A Yolo County man was recently arrested on suspicion of grand theft for allegedly stealing fuel from an agricultural fuel tank in Colusa County.
According to a press release by the county Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on two different occasions — October 26 and November 20 — to the area of County Line Road, west of I-5, to investigate reports of an individual actively stealing red dye diesel fuel from an agricultural fuel tank.
On both occasions, the suspect ultimately managed to elude authorities and escape with over 500 gallons of stolen fuel, totaling a loss of more than $2,000 for the owner, the Sheriff’s Office said.
As the victim had installed trail cameras on the property, investigators were able to identify the suspect as 53-year-old Joseph Michael Cain of Woodland.
On the morning of December 13, Colusa and Yolo County authorities served a search warrant on the 500 block of Community Lane in Woodland, where they also located and arrested Cain in connection with the thefts.
Cain was later booked at the Colusa County jail on suspicion of grand theft and committing a felony while out on bail.
It was unclear at press time whether Cain had retained an attorney.
