Three individuals were recently arrested, one of them twice, on weapons-related and other charges in the first week of January in Shasta County.
On Wednesday, January 3rd, a traffic enforcement stop in the Cottonwood area led to the arrest of Ryan Lamar Montgomery, 51. During the stop, K-9 Ace reportedly detected the presence of narcotics. Authorities searched Montgomery’s vehicle and recovered two loaded handguns, narcotics paraphernalia, prescription narcotics, and approximately $8,000 in cash.
Authorities later served a search warrant at Montgomery’s residence on Pleasant Court in Cottonwood, at which time they reportedly discovered marijuana intended for sale, narcotics paraphernalia, items associated with narcotics sales, and ammunition.
Montgomery, a convicted felon, was arrested for the alleged unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition, marijuana for sales, and the seizure of the cash believed to be proceeds from illegal narcotics sales. He posted bail on January 4th and was released from custody.
The following day, on January 4th, a traffic enforcement stop in the Happy Valley area led to the arrest of Christopher Jordan Short, 34. Short was reportedly accompanied by his father, William Torrence Short, 80, and was found to have an active felony warrant.
Upon searching Christopher, authorities discovered approximately 3 grams of fentanyl and items associated with narcotics sales. During a subsequent surveillance of Christopher’s residence on Bonnett Lane in Happy Valley, detectives reportedly observed William removing a gun safe containing firearms. Both were convicted felons prohibited from possessing firearms.
Authorities obtained a search warrant and ultimately discovered six firearms, approximately 2 ounces of fentanyl, about 9 grams of methamphetamine, items related to narcotics sales, ammunition, and non-compliant firearms. One of the firearms had been reported stolen.
Christopher Short was arrested for various alleged offenses, including narcotics possession for sales and possession of firearms, while William was arrested for possession of firearms by a convicted felon and attempting to destroy evidence.
On January 5th, law enforcement stopped Ryan Montgomery while he was driving the same vehicle. K-9 Deputy Ace reportedly once again detected a narcotic odor, leading to the discovery of approximately 10 ounces of methamphetamine, prescription narcotics, around $1,000 in cash, and items associated with narcotics sales.
Montgomery was arrested for the alleged transportation and possession of narcotics for sales and booked into the Shasta County jail.
