Two Arrested on Suspicion of Homicide After Deceased Victim Found in RV

“On January 11, 2024, at approximately 10:50 PM, Patrol Officers responded to the area of Kruse Drive and Montague Expressway for a report of a possible dead body inside a recreational vehicle. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male that was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the level of decomposition, it was not evident at the scene that the death was the result of foul play. Patrol Officers on scene collected evidence and did a thorough investigation. The Santa Clara Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and began a concurrent investigation.
On January 17, 2024, the Chief Medical Examiner of the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office contacted SJPD and advised that they had located physical trauma on the victim and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
SJPD Homicide Unit detectives immediately began following up on the incident and conducted a thorough and comprehensive investigation. Detectives quickly identified Marco Espinoza and Michael Anaya as the suspects responsible for the homicide and obtained warrants for their arrests.
On January 19, 2024, Officers from the Special Operations M.E.R.G.E. Unit located and arrested both suspects in San José. Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for homicide.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
This was the City’s 3rd homicide of 2024.
