BART Police Arrest 2 Armed Men in Separate Incidents at Fruitvale Station

OAKLAND —BART police arrested two men and confiscated loaded firearms at Fruitvale Station on February 3. Both men remain in custody at the Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, pending arraignment.
BART officers contacted Kevin D. Cockerham, 18, of Oakland, for fare evasion at 1:20 p.m. While Cockerham was being detained, he attempted to retrieve a loaded short-barrel rifle from inside his waistband.
Cockerham was placed under arrest at 1:50 p.m. He was booked for carrying a concealed loaded firearm, and possession of an assault weapon. He was also booked for possession of a large capacity magazine, and other offenses.
Charges were subsequently filed against Cockerham for –
- Carrying a concealed firearm
- Carrying a concealed firearm with ammunition
- Carrying a loaded firearm
- Carrying an unregistered loaded firearm
The second armed suspect arrested is Frank Scott, a 40-year-old resident of San Leandro. An officer contacted Scott at 7 p.m. for smoking in the station. Scott, a parolee, was carrying a pistol in his sling bag. He was arrested at 7:12 p.m.
Scott was booked for addict in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm. He was also booked for felony parole violation and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Charges subsequently filed against Scott include possession of a firearm by a felon.
He has prior convictions for burglary, robbery, possession of cocaine for sale, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
