During a routine patrol in North San Juan on the night of February 11, 2024, Nevada County deputies encountered a vehicle parked outside a local bar and initiated contact with its sole occupant. The occupant of the vehicle informed deputies that the handgun belonged to the driver, who had entered the bar prior to their arrival. Taking precautionary measures, deputies secured the loaded firearm and proceeded to locate the driver within the establishment.
The driver was identified as Wayne Rogers, aged 62, hailing from Nevada City. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Rogers did not possess a concealed carry permit. More significantly, Rogers was determined to be prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction.
