Stolen Mail, Narcotics, Explosive Device Allegedly Found in Stolen Vehicle; Man Arrested
A Calaveras County man was recently arrested after authorities spotted a stolen vehicle during field training near Mokelumne Hill.
According to a press release by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, on February 6, a deputy in field training with a K-9 Sergeant and K-9 Deputy Titan spotted a vehicle which had been reported stolen from the Valley Oaks Shopping Center in Valley Springs on February 4.
As authorities approached the vehicle, an individual fled the vehicle on foot into nearby wooded terrain and dense vegetation. The individual initially eluded capture, but authorities located them after deploying Titan. The individual was identified as Jonathan Hunter Morris, 30, of Valley Springs. He was arrested without further incident.
Authorities searched Morris and the vehicle and reportedly discovered an explosive device, drug paraphernalia, suspected stolen male, a suspected controlled substance, and a large knife. Authorities discovered Morris also had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Tuolumne County for alleged evading and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Morris was later booked at the Calaveras County jail. The investigation into the suspected stolen mail is active and ongoing.
