Shasta County Man Arrested for Alleged Assault with Deadly Weapon, Resisting an Officer

“On Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, at 4:11 PM, Redding Police Park Rangers contacted two male adults who were trespassing on an undeveloped piece of private property, located near the intersection of Hartnell Avenue and East Cypress Avenue. One of the males was later identified as 36-year-old, Cody Levi Bailey of Redding.

During the encounter, Bailey became agitated, made verbal threats, and threw a rock at the officers, nearly striking them. Bailey fled the area and began walking eastbound on East Cypress Avenue. The two officers pursued Bailey on foot and observed him holding a knife in his hand. A separate officer who was nearby responded to assist and contacted Bailey near the intersection of East Cypress Avenue and Lowden Lane.

The officer verbally ordered Bailey to drop the knife, attempting to de-escalate the situation. Bailey ignored the officer’s commands and forced a violent confrontation which resulted in the officer discharging his duty weapon. After disarming Bailey, officers immediately rendered medical aid and Bailey was transported to a local area hospital. None of the involved officers sustained any injuries.

Since the incident, charges have been filed with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant has been issued. On Tuesday, April 16th, Bailey was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail, following his release from the hospital for the following charges: 245(C) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 69 PC – Resisting an Executive Officer, 417.8 PC – Exhibiting a Deadly Weapon & 148(A)(1) PC – Resisting Arrest.”
