BRENTWOOD —Two would-be safecrackers were thwarted by coordinated response of the Brentwood Police Department. Two suspects were arrested in April and an unopened safe was recovered from the getaway car allegedly used by them.
Police responded to a burglary alarm during the night at Brentwood Center. The alarm sounded at the Dollar Tree store at 51 Sand Creek Road. Officers were dispatched on April 24 at 11:45 p.m. The thieves were gone before the police arrived on the scene.
A dispatcher updated officers en route to the store that a safe was stolen by suspects fleeing by car. Officers in the vicinity saw a car traveling at a high rate of speed, but temporarily lost sight of it.
Police later found the same car abandoned on a side street. Turns out it was the getaway car used by the suspects. In addition to recovering the stolen safe from the hatchback, officers also found burglary tools inside the car.
Officers commenced searching for the suspects and found the two men nearby hiding inside large bushes. Alfredo Barrera, 27, of Turlock, and Alejandro Ramirez-Silva, 26, of Ceres, were subsequently arrested. They were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for booking.
In a prepared statement Brentwood police said. “Barrera and Ramirez-Silva were arrested for burglary, conspiracy to commit crime, possession of burglary tools, and other charges. Barrera also had outstanding warrants from another county.”
