“On Friday, April 12, 2024 at approximately 8:30 a.m., Monterey Police Officers and Agents from the U.S. Marshals Service were conducting surveillance in the 2200 block of North Fremont Street. The purpose of the surveillance was to locate and apprehend a suspect who had an outstanding $1.2 million arrest warrant for his arrest out of Manteca, California for human trafficking.

While conducting surveillance, the law enforcement officials located the wanted suspect, Hakeem Mackey, 27, of Menlo Park at a hotel in the 2200 block of North Fremont and took him into custody.

The investigation revealed Mackey was involved in human trafficking and was in possession of a loaded firearm.

Mackey was transported and booked into the Monterey County Jail for the original $1.2 million arrest warrant for violations of California Penal Code (PC) §236.1 – human trafficking and false imprisonment and the new violations of California Penal Code (PC) §25850(c)(6) – possession of a loaded, unregistered handgun, §32310(c) PC – possession of large capacity magazine, and §266H(a) PC – pimping. A bail enhancement related to the new charges was requested and granted. Mackey’s bail for the new charges was set at $500,000.
