Butte County Sheriff’s Office Makes Arrest in Connection with Oroville Homicide

“APRIL 27TH OROVILLE HOMICIDE UPDATE:

During this investigation BCSO detectives located evidence indicating Perkins was in the Stockton, California area. On the evening of April 26, BCSO detectives located Perkins at a gas station in Stockton. Perkins was arrested for an open count of murder and for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Detectives determined Perkins had been staying at a residence in Stockton. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and located additional evidence related to this investigation. Perkins was booked into the Butte County Jail on the morning of April 27.

OROVILLE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

Oroville, CA- On April 20, 2024, at approximately 10:25 p.m., the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) dispatch center received a call from a resident who reported a victim had been shot in the 500 block of Lodgeview Drive, Oroville, California.

BCSO deputies responded and located a male victim in the roadway. Deputies and medical personnel immediately began providing the victim with medical aid. Despite the life-saving efforts provided, the victim did not survive.

BCSO deputies and detectives conducted an investigation. During the investigation detectives located evidence that gave them cause to believe Joseph Perkins, age 54, of Oroville shot the victim. Detectives located evidence that Perkins left the area in a vehicle after the shooting. The vehicle Perkins left in was located unoccupied in the Kelly Ridge area later in the evening.

Detectives worked with the Butte County District Attorney’s Office and obtained an arrest warrant for Perkins for one count of murder, and for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
