OAKLAND — California Highway Patrol announced the arrest of a man suspected of recklessly firing a pistol during freeway rush hour traffic. The suspect was intoxicated evidently when he was apprehended weeks later during a subsequent traffic stop.
The gunfire occurred March 29 on Interstate 580 near Seminary Avenue in Oakland. It happened at approximately 9 a.m. Fortunately, no victims were struck by bullets.
CHP said in a prepared statement. “A motorist reported a driver firing numerous rounds out the window on eastbound I-580 at Seminary Avenue The witness provided evidence crucial to solving this case.”
This same witness provided the CHP with video recorded by a dashcam. It shows the whole incident. It provided detectives with a lead on the suspect Dominic J. Taylor, 32, of San Leandro.
CHP detectives accompanied by CHP officers found Taylor driving in Oakland on April 12. They pulled him over and immediately observed signs of intoxication. Taylor was arrested for DUI that day and for the freeway shooting in March.
Taylor faces four DUI-related charges as well as charges for the shooting incident in March. His charges involving the shooting are negligent discharge of a firearm and discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. His DUI charges include one for driving while privilege restricted for a prior DUI conviction. DUIs are a reoccurring problem for him.
On New Year’s Day Taylor was arrested for another DUI. In addition, Taylor was convicted for yet another DUI in 2013.
