Nevada City Police Arrest Suspect in Cyber Fraud Scam
Nevada City Police Officers responded to a report earlier this week regarding a case of cyber fraud targeting a local resident. The victim had encountered a pop-up notification on her computer, purportedly from tech support, indicating the presence of illegal material requiring removal. Subsequently, the victim paid a significant sum of money to the suspect under the guise of rectifying the issue.
Days later, the suspect contacted the victim again, demanding further funds for the same purpose. Recognizing the potential scam, the victim promptly reported the incident to law enforcement. Subsequently, officers were able to apprehend a suspect identified as Zhiheng Yang, a resident of San Jose, who arrived at the victim’s residence to collect additional funds.
Yang was taken into custody and booked on felony charges related to the cyber fraud scheme. This incident underscores the prevalence of cyber fraud and the importance of remaining vigilant against such scams. The Nevada City Police Department emphasizes its readiness to assist individuals who suspect fraudulent activity, encouraging community members to report any suspicious incidents promptly.
