Gabriel Avendano, 22-year-old, Porterville Resident

Summary:
On May 1, 2024, at 8:36 P.M. Porterville Police Department officers were dispatched to the parking lot of a shopping center located within the 1300 block of West Henderson Avenue regarding a physical altercation. Officers arrived on scene and located a male victim who was unconscious and appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and the suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Detectives later assumed the investigation and identified the suspect as Gabriel Avendano, a known criminal street gang member, and an arrest warrant was obtained.

On June 1, 2024, at 7:00 P.M. Detectives located Avendano at a residence in the 1100 block of North Lu Ann Street where he was taken into custody after attempting to flee from detectives.

Avendano was transported to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office South County Detention Facility where he was booked on charges of battery resulting in great bodily injury and an additional felony warrant stemming from violent crimes.

The report was submitted to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office for review.
