The Hollister Police Department arrested a local man for multiple alleged drug-related charges, resisting arrest, and possession of ammunition as a convicted felon.
According to a press release by the Hollister Police Department, an officer was on routine patrol in the area of Monterey Street and B Street when she noticed someone riding an electric bicycle unsafely and allegedly running stop signs in the early morning hours of May 31. The officer pulled the bicyclist over.
The officer contacted the rider, who was later identified as Miguel Mendoza, 48.
Mendoza was allegedly uncooperative and initially started to ride away before turning back. When asked for his identification, he threw it on the ground, police said.
The officer reportedly asked Mendoza if he possessed any weapons, and he allegedly admitted to having a knife. Despite being told multiple times not to reach for the knife, Mendoza continued to reach into his pockets.
Another officer arrived to assist, and the officers attempted to detain Mendoza in handcuffs. He allegedly resisted by pulling away, tensing up, and refusing to show his hands.
Additional officers arrived and assisted in taking Mendoza into custody. He was placed under arrest for allegedly resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer.
During a search of Mendoza’s property, the officer reportedly located multiple baggies, suspected methamphetamine, suspected fentanyl, scales, and other drug paraphernalia. Officers also discovered a box of ammunition.
A records check also revealed Mendoza was a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to possess ammunition, police said.
Mendoza was transported to the San Benito County jail and booked on suspicion of resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, transporting a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
