Authorities in Mendocino County recently arrested a man on suspicion of battery for allegedly dousing his relative with boiling water.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded late on the night of June 2 to the emergency room at a local hospital on Marcela Drive in Willits. There, a man claimed that a relative had set him on fire during an argument.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the victim had not been set on fire, but that someone had doused him with boiling water. They noted injuries that were otherwise consistent with the victim’s account.
Deputies learned that the victim and his relative had gotten into an argument at a home on North Highway 101 in Willits.
The argument escalated when the suspect allegedly removed a pot of boiling water from the stove and threw it onto the victim. The boiling water caused significant injuries to the victim’s body.
After the alleged attack, the suspect drove the victim to the hospital and then fled the area, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies later located the suspect, identified as Raymond Cavino, 25, and questioned him about the incident.
After speaking with Cavino and other witnesses, deputies arrested Cavino on suspicion of battery with serious injury. They later booked Cavino at the Mendocino County jail on $30,000 bond.
