Coachella Valley Task Force Assists in Border Patrol Weapon Seizure
On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, members of the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force (CVVCGTF) responded to a call from the U.S. Border Patrol Blythe Station (PB) to assist with a weapon seizure operation.
Border Patrol Agents intercepted a Honda CRV at the California and Arizona border, driven by Jose Palma Almendarez, 25, accompanied by his 17-year-old juvenile brother. During the inspection, agents discovered a significant quantity of assault rifles and magazines concealed in the vehicle’s rear compartment. Subsequent interviews indicated that the firearms had been acquired in Phoenix, AZ, with the intention of being trafficked into California.
CVVCGTF officers seized a total of 25 assault rifles and two handguns from the vehicle. Palma Almendarez was arrested and booked into the Blythe Jail on multiple charges related to illegal possession and transportation of firearms. The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents.
