Redwood City Man Arrested for Alleged Negligent Discharge of Firearm at Apartment Complex
Police in Redwood City have arrested a man for the alleged reckless discharge of a firearm on New Year’s Day of this year.
In the early morning hours January 1, police had responded to a report of firearm discharge outside an apartment building on the 500 block of Stambaugh Street.
Officers canvassed the area and reportedly found spent and unspent bullets, including .45 caliber and 9mm casings.
No suspects were identified at the time of the initial investigation, police said.
In this incident, several Redwood City citizens, including children, were present in the area when the suspect fired multiple shots.
After six months of investigation, detectives identified the primary suspect as Juan Jose VeraGaleana, 23, of Redwood City.
On June 19, police carried a search warrant on VeraGaleana and his residence.
Detectives reportedly confiscated a .45 caliber handgun, .45 caliber and 9mm ammunition, as well as firearm accessories within the property.
A records check revealed that the firearm was not registered to VeraGaleana or anyone he knew, police said.
Detectives reportedly also located a fraudulent California identification card featuring VeraGaleana’s digital image but with a fraudulent name and the identification number of an unrelated person.
VeraGaleana was arrested and booked at the Maguire Correctional Facility on three felony violations.
