American Canyon High School Principal Charged with Failure to Report Child Molestation
The Napa County District Attorney’s Office announced on June 27, 2024, that Andrew Goff, Principal of American Canyon High School, has been charged with failure to make a mandated report of suspected child abuse or neglect. Goff, 61, is accused of not reporting allegations of a sexual relationship between a student and Brad Rowell, a former track and field coach and teacher at the high school.
As an employee of the Napa Valley Unified School District, Goff is a mandated reporter. It is alleged that he was informed of the suspected relationship but did not report it to law enforcement or child welfare services in a timely manner.
Brad Rowell, 41, is currently held at the Napa County Department of Corrections with bail set at $500,000. He faces 25 felony counts, including lewd acts upon a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, oral copulation of a person under 18, and possession of photos and videos depicting a minor in sexual conduct. The charges allege that Rowell’s crimes involved vulnerable victims, occurred in multiple jurisdictions, and were committed from a position of trust.
The charge against Goff is a misdemeanor under California Penal Code 11166. If convicted, he faces up to six months in county jail, a fine of $1,000, or both. His arraignment is scheduled for July 11, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. in Napa County Superior Court.
Deputy District Attorney Shashawnya Worley emphasized the importance of mandated reporter laws in protecting vulnerable individuals. “Our office will enforce those laws so that crime survivors are protected, cases are investigated, and ongoing abuse is stopped,” Worley stated.
