Suspect Arrested Following Burglary and High-Speed Pursuit in La Mesa

On June 30, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM, officers responded to the 7800 block of University Avenue to investigate multiple burglary and robbery alarm activations. Upon arrival, an officer observed a male suspect inside the premises running towards the back of the building. The suspect was ordered to stop but instead fled the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, officers located the suspect attempting to break into another business in La Mesa. Once again, the suspect fled the area in his vehicle at a high speed. Following a brief vehicle pursuit, the suspect barricaded himself inside his vehicle and refused to comply with officers’ commands.

For the next 50 minutes, officers employed multiple de-escalation tactics, which ultimately proved unsuccessful. Due to the suspect’s behavior and concerns for the safety of the public and officers, less-than-lethal force options were deployed. The suspect then exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident or injury.

The suspect was booked into San Diego County Jail on charges of commercial burglary and felony evading.
