Police Arrest Three Suspects in Fatal Shooting Linked to Attempted Robbery

Palm Springs PD is seeking witnesses in relation to a shooting victim.

Friday evening, July 26, at approximately 10:26 p.m., a local hospital reported receiving a gunshot victim who allegedly sustained the injury at a downtown parking structure. The victim’s friends, who had brought him to the hospital, were interviewed by officers. Despite medical efforts, the victim did not survive.

Police responded to the 200 block of S. Indian Canyon Drive to secure the crime scene. Through their investigation, officers identified a potential suspect, Jorge Maciel, a 20-year-old resident of Palm Springs.

Surveillance was conducted at a related address where officers observed Maciel departing with two other unidentified males in a vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted, during which Maciel attempted to flee on foot. A police K9 unit was deployed, resulting in Maciel’s apprehension. The two other individuals, Michael Genera, 23, and Eliberto Genera, 23, both from Cathedral City, were also detained.

Further investigation indicated that the incident originated from an attempted robbery. The charges against the suspects are as follows:

– Michael Genera, 23, Cathedral City: 187(a) PC – Murder, 664/211 PC – Attempted Robbery
– Eliberto Genera, 23, Cathedral City: 187(a) PC – Murder, 664/211 PC – Attempted Robbery

The investigation was extensive, involving collaboration from multiple departments, leading to the suspects’ arrest within six hours. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until the Riverside County Coroner’s Office can notify next of kin.
