“On Saturday, July 27, 2024, deputies from the Highland Sheriff’s Station responded to a call of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two men suffering gunshot wounds. The men were transported to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving measures, both men were pronounced deceased.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, responded and assumed the investigation. Through investigation, it was discovered Jonathan McConnell was involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision with Aaron Harris. McConnell was driving a motorcycle on the 210 Freeway when he split lanes and collided into the sedan occupied by Harris and his two children, ages two and five years old.

Harris followed McConnell off the freeway and into the parking lot at 27141 Baseline Street. When McConnell arrived in the parking lot, he met with several people known to him in front of Joy’s Lounge. Harris stopped his vehicle and shouted threats at McConnell. When McConnell approached the vehicle, Harris fired a gun at McConnell and McConnell returned fire. An adult male at the scene received a non-fatal gunshot wound to his hand. The children and others at the location were unharmed.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Detective Shawn Thurman, Specialized Investigations Division at (909) 890-4904. Callers can remain anonymous and contact We-Tip at 800-78CRIME or www.wetip.com.”
